FEATURE: HEALTHY LIVING IN LEONARDTOWN

For those who are interested in living a healthy lifestyle, Historic Leonardtown, Maryland is an idyllic location to live and visit. Offering a wealth of options from both indoor and outdoor activities, Leonardtown is sure to fit everyone’s ideal for a “fit lifestyle”.

If you’re an outdoor enthusiast why not spend the day on the water. PAC Paddlesports (www.paxadventuresd.com) provides rentals for kayaks and paddleboards at Leonardtown Wharf and Port of Leonardtown Winery Park. One favorite paddle outing they highly recommend is a scenic water trail that departs from the Port of Leonardtown Winery Park, launching from McIntosh Run - a little known secret hidden in this vibrant, green park that provides cooling shade to visitors even on the warmest of days. This serene water trail is nearly three miles long and leads to picturesque Leonardtown Wharf Park. The trip can take between 2.5 to 3 hrs to complete depending on the speed of paddling and any breaks taken to stop and smell the flowers. On this outing, sighting a few bald eagles is easy to do in the Spring months and if you go in the morning or evening, seeing muskrat, beaver or otter is not uncommon.

Looking for more of a challenge, why not try Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP). Rent a paddleboard from PAC Paddlesports at Leonardtown Wharf and enjoy the day paddling on beautiful Breton Bay. Paddleboarding has been proven to burn more calories than most sports. In addition to being comparable to a full body workout, paddleboarding also helps improve strength, balance and endurance. You don’t have to be an expert to enjoy this new and upcoming sport. SUP is designed to be family friendly and is great for beginners. Personal Training Studio, root, SUP & Fitness (www.rootsupfitness.com), offers classes focused on technique and supplies board rentals for community paddles.

Everyone speaks to everyone.” Town Administrator, Laschelle McKay, shared information about plans to expand on this connectivity in the future. “Many sidewalk and road connections are planned or underway to ensure a safe environment for anyone that wants to walk, jog or run their way around Town.”, McKay notes. One such recently added connection is the renovated Nature and Fitness Trail at the College of

Southern Maryland’s Leonardtown Campus that opened in July 2018. The widened, mulched trail winds through the forested area behind campus’ Wellness and Aquatic Center. The trail is open to the community and offers beautiful views of stately, old trees and native foliage.
