FEATURE: Healthy Living in Leonardtown

If a leisurely stroll or jog is more your pace, enjoy the gorgeous view from the Wharf then head up the hill to Leonardtown Square, the heart of Historic Leonardtown, where you can enjoy a delicious healthy meal at one of the quality local restaurants. Wander around and visit the numerous, local shops while you’re in town. Leonardtown’s Mayor, Daniel Burris, describes Leonardtown as a “Walking town with a pedestrian-friendly atmosphere that’s focused on connectivity.” Mayor Burris goes on to note that “Everything is accessible within a few blocks, and as you walk around town, you’ll find no one feels like a stranger. Everyone speaks to everyone.” Town Administrator, Laschelle McKay, shared information about plans to expand on this connectivity in the future. “Many sidewalk and road connections are planned or underway to ensure a safe environment for anyone that wants to walk, jog or run their way around Town.”, McKay notes. One such recently added connection is the renovated Nature and Fitness Trail at the College of

Southern Maryland’s Leonardtown Campus that opened in July 2018. The widened, mulched trail winds through the forested area behind campus’ Wellness and Aquatic Center. The trail is open to the community and offers beautiful views of stately, old trees and native foliage.
